Sterling's pedigree includes Saaz, Cascade, Brewers Gold, Early Green and other European varieties. It was developed in 1998 as a replacement for Saaz with a higher alpha value and improved disease resistance and good stroge quality.
'Sterling' is used for both: bittering and flavouring hops. Although 'Sterling' is mainly used for its delightful, pleasant flavours, 'Sterling's alpha acidity can also make an important contribution in the brew kettle. It is a good choice for hop-emphasised lagers, Belgian ales and other continental styles.
