Description

'Sorachi Ace' was developed in 1984 for Sapporo Breweries Ltd. from ('Brewer's Gold' x 'Saazer' -OP) x Beikei No. 2 (male) and named after Sorachi, a sub-prefecture of Hokkaido. This variety has a good yield and good resistance to mildew, wilt and botrytis. The original breeding goal was to create a variety very similar to Saaz, but with a higher alpha acid content. The flavour of this variety is unique.

'Sorachi Ace' gilt als "dual-purpose" Hopfen: ein Aromahopfen mit gelichzeitig hohem Bitterstoffgehalt.

the variety 'Saaz' - similar to 'Tettnanger' - is no modern breeding coming from the hop science research institute Hüll but an old local variety. The origin of this variety is Saaz (Zatec) in Böhmen/Czech Republic. This region is very famous because of best beer and finest hops as well as the town "Pilsen".
